The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Risk Management Division of the County Administrator’s Office are announcing a recruitment for the position of Workers’ Compensation Analyst. 
The Workers’ Compensation Analyst oversees the County’s Self-Insured Workers’ Compensation Program administered by a Third Party Administrator (TPA); directs the County’s return-to-work program as the Transitional Work Coordinator; mitigates work–related, claims-based issues; serves as a liaison between the TPA and staff; and performs related analytical, statistical and cost analysis studies. In addition, this position assists in the preparation and presentation of county-wide training of Workers’ Compensation and the Transitional Work Program and performs other related duties as assigned. There is currently one (1) full-time regular hire vacancy in the Risk Management Division of the County Administrator’s Office. 

The ideal candidate has demonstrated knowledge of California laws and regulations relative to workers' compensation and possesses senior-level workers’ compensation claims administration experience. (S)he is self-directed with excellent judgment, negotiation and decision making skills. The ideal candidate can communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of personalities and stakeholders in order to deliver trainings, resolve disputes and write clear, concise and effective emails, correspondence, training materials, procedural documents and reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Equivalent to possession of a four-year degree from an accredited college or university and four years of recent professional experience in workers’ compensation claims handling, administration and operation oversight. Work experience should include some combination of experience in environmental health and safety, risk management, human resources, return-to-work programs and ergonomic assessments. 

Two years of recent workers’ compensation claims administration performing senior-level duties such as claims negotiations and program management may be substituted for the education up to a maximum of two years.

A four-year college or university degree with major coursework in business or public administration, public policy or a field related to the work is highly desirable.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of a California Self-Insurance Administrator’s Certificate
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving history as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE:  Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination process may consist of a highly qualified review, supplemental application screening, online assessment, written examination, practical performance, oral examination or any combination to determine which candidate’s names may be placed on the eligible list.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees will need to travel to alternate work locations both indoors and outdoors, and attend WCAB Hearings and depositions at offsite non-County premises.
