A Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy was charged Monday with cashing 11 paychecks he was not entitled to because he was recuperating from an injury and receiving workers’ compensation.
Terrance Sanford Shetley, of Inwood, was charged with one count of fraudulent schemes, heraldmailmedia.com reported.
He was released on a $10,000 recognizance bond, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.
Shetley allegedly picked up the 11 paychecks, worth $18,799, from the Sheriff’s Department from June 20, 2015, through Dec. 30, 2015, the Herald Mail reported.
“It is my belief that Shetley knowingly cashed the checks issued from Berkeley County when he knew that he was already receiving payment from workers’ compensation,” sheriff’s Lt. B.F. Hall said in the complaint.
