Ron Simmons

Ron Simmons was appointed chairman of the board of directors for Texas Mutual Insurance Co., the workers’ compensation carrier announced Wednesday.

Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Simmons to the carrier’s board in January, and the Senate affirmed the appointment in February.

A former state representative, Simmons takes over the role from Bob Barnes, who has served on the Texas Mutual board of directors for 12 years, including 11 as chairman.

Barnes will step down from the board when his term expires June 30.
