Two Lincoln police officers have sued the estate of the man they fatally shot in 2015, seeking to recover damages to pay for their injuries, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.

Angela Sands and Matthew Gilleland fatally shot 29-year-old Zachary Grigsby on Nov. 29, 2015, after Grigsby shot at them while they attempted to arrest him.

The officers and the city of Lincoln have sued Grigsby's estate before, with city attorneys seeking to recoup $65,000 to cover the officers' workers' compensation medical expenses.

The officers filed their new suit on Tuesday in Lancaster County District Court. The city is listed as an interested party. Sands and Gilleland are seeking an award to cover their medical expenses, lost wages and damages, the Journal Star reports.
