The state Senate has passed a bill by a 34-0 vote to redirect money from the Workers’ Compensation Debt Reduction Fund to the General Revenue Fund to shore up budget woes.

SB 362 would permit, by executive order, the governor to take $33 million in deposit revenues collected from employer surcharges and assessments on workers’ compensation policies, surcharges from self-insureds and proceeds from net terminal income funds to be moved to the general fund during fiscal 2018.

A fiscal note can be found here.

The news website wvmetronews.com reported Thursday that the $33 million is needed to plug a $38 million hole in the fiscal 2018 budget.
