POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Legal Assistant provides support for in house attorneys and hearing representatives. The position requires the ability to multitask and prioritize with minimal supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedule depositions, meetings, and medical-legal exams; calendar management and preparation of new legal files for attorneys; preparation of correspondence and forms for WCAB filing and service of documents; order records; filing and copy work.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with attorneys, legal and claim staff, court reporters, and court clerks.
  • Superior organizational skills needed; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment; ability to multi-task; attention to detail; professionalism in contacts with others

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • MATH ABILITY: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current technologies in telecommunications, data entry and file management.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word processing software; Microsoft spreadsheet software; and be proficient on applicable databases, systems and vendor software programs.
