Advise on the administration of self-insured sickness, Long-Term Disability (LTD), Total Disability under the Pension Plan (TDI), and the centralized leave and return to work program. Act as a key resource for the administration of employee leave of absence in compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), state-mandated leave of absence, other leave acts and company policies. Execute the interactive process and implement reasonable accommodations on an individualized basis under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and ADA Amendment Act (ADAA) and the State of California Fair Employment Housing Act (FEHA). Advise, provide guidance and counsel for the stay at work and return to work (RTW) programs for both occupational and non-occupational disabilities. Act as a resource throughout the organization for policies, practices, and procedures regarding absence management. Develop and provide training to management, Human Resources, and employees regarding leave and return to work processes. Responsible for the short term and LTD benefit administration per Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and company policies (self-insured).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administration for sickness, LTD, and TDI benefit, in accordance with plan documents, company policies and applicable laws/regulations. Administer and coordinate the return-to-work programs, including limited duty, temporary modified duty, reasonable accommodations and/or alternate work plans. Advise on company policy, reasonable accommodations obligations and office procedures of new strategies for successful implementation of the return-to-work programs. Provide technical support and guidance on the administration of intermittent FMLA and family leave and integrate with other employee care services (ECS) related processes, and with other job protected leaves. Draft and update benefit correspondence, letters and notifications. Review current processes and procedures for efficiencies, enhancements, and improvements.
  • Administer employee leave of absence in compliance with FMLA, state mandated leaves of absence, other leave acts and company policies. Provide the interactive process and implement reasonable accommodations on an individualized basis under the ADA, ADAA and FEHA. Oversee the stay at work and return to work programs for both occupational and non-occupational disabilities. Monitor claims administration compliance through regular reoccurring claim file reviews.
  • Act as a resource throughout the organization for policies, practices and procedures regarding absence management. Develop and provide training and coaching to management, Human Resources and employees regarding leave and return to work processes, and ADA/FEHA issues. Responsible for the short term and LTD benefit administration per ERISA and company policies (self-insured).
  • Research best business practices within and outside the organization to establish benchmarks and develop effective process improvement. Collect and analyze process data to initiate, develop and recommend business practices and procedures that focus on enhanced productivity and reduced costs. Analyze and measure the effectiveness of existing business processes. Determine how new information technologies can support re-engineered business processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze sickness, LTD, TDI and leave and return to work information. Coordinate the tracking and extracting of data from various sources and ECS teams. Maintain accurate records of physical demands of job classifications through job analysis and/or outside resources.
  • Ensure the company's compliance with all disability discrimination related legislation by analyzing essential job functions and providing direction to supervisors and managers toward the development of modified and/or alternative work. May perform vocational assessments for LTD determination of continued benefits or to assist in developing vocational rehabilitation plans.
  • In partnership with ECS Wellness Manager, provide guidance to Benefit Leave examiners, providing training and development in screening procedures related to disabilities. Provide direction on day to day operations, compliance, file reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, related field, or equivalent training and/or experience. Required
Experience
  • 4 years - Experience working in compliance with ADA reasonable accommodation and interactive process or return to work program. Required
  • 4 years - Experience in Human Resources, sick leave administration, short term disability, long-term disability claims, and/or workers' compensation vocational rehabilitation counseling, or combination.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying provisions of disability plans and policy, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), qualified plans, pension plan disability, sickness, vacation and long-term disability benefits. Preferred
  • Experience with administering represented employee benefits. Preferred
