The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services updated its workers’ compensation user guide to allow electronic submission of annual attestations for approved set-aside agreements, Tower MSA Partners reports.
The Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set-Aside Portal User Guide Version 5.9, released Oct. 7, eliminates the requirement to submit the annual attestation by mail. Final settlement documents must be submitted to CMS before the electronic filing option can be used.
“Providing for electronic submission of annual attestations will benefit both CMS and MSA administrators, as it will allow for better and faster coordination of benefits,” Tower reported. “This coordination of benefits ensures that when MSA funds exhaust, either temporarily or permanently, Medicare payment for the Medicare beneficiary’s injury-related bills will be triggered.”
CMS is holding two webinars to discuss the electronic filing option. The webinar at 1 p.m. Eastern Oct. 30 will be for Medicare beneficiaries and their representatives. The 1 p.m. Eastern Nov. 6 webinar will be for professional administrators.
