Ahead of a planned merger with the American Insurance Association, the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America has elected a slate of new officers.

At its annual meeting in Miami this week, the group named Pete McPartland chairman, Jim Brannen as first vice chairman, and Greg Crabb as second vice chair.

“We are pleased to welcome Pete as PCI’s board chair,” David A. Sampson, president of PCI, said in an email. “Property casualty insurers are operating in an era of unparalleled disruption and promise."

McPartland has been CEO of Sentry Insurance Group since 2010. He previously was with Fireman's Fund, General Casualty and Golden Eagle Insurance, and he serves on the board of the Workers Compensation Research Institute.

Brannen is CEO of FBL Financial Group. Prior to that, he worked in accounting and was on the board of directors of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and of Great Western Bank.

Crabb is CEO of Amerisure Cos. He has overseen claims, human resources, information technology, audit and legal departments. He previously was with The Hartford.

PCI, composed of approximately 1,000 member companies and 340 insurance groups, did not say how long the officers would serve or when the expected merger with AIA would take place. The trade groups announced in June that they plan to combine resources, but details have not been released.

If the merger goes through, it will leave just two national groups representing primary property and casualty insurers on national and state legislative issues: the merged group and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).

NAMIC represents about 1,400 member companies that write $253 billion in annual premiums, or 40% of the market.
