The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry plans to eventually close the facility where workers’ compensation cases are adjudicated in Malvern, but not in the near future, The Legal Intelligencer reported Monday.

William H. Lynch, chief of the Chester County Bar Association’s workers’ compensation section, told the news service that Labor Secretary Jerry Olesiak told him during a July 20 meeting that the Malvern facility will remain open until the end of the year.

A spokesman for the Department of Labor & Industry confirmed that the agency intends to move the Malvern office but could not provide a date for the move, The Legal Intelligencer said.

Lynch said that the move was reported to him as a “done deal” and that the labor department planned move the hearing location to Bridgeport, in neighboring Montgomery County, about 12 miles to the northeast.

Contacted on Monday, Lynch told WorkCompCentral that an official with the Department of Labor & Industry told him that the department intends to issue a request for proposals to find a new location.
