In keeping with a Louisiana law that requires claims adjusters to be licensed, the Louisiana Department of Insurance and the Louisiana Association of Self-Insured Employers will host a seminar to help aspiring adjusters pass the exam.
Attorneys with the firm of Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson will also lead the half-day workshop, which will be held Dec. 4 at the Louisiana Bankers Association in Baton Rouge. The seminar, which begins at 9 a.m., will offer four to six hours of continuing education for adjusters, case managers and human resource professionals.
Louisiana implemented licensing requirements for insurance adjusters following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, but workers’ comp adjusters were exempted. Senate Bill 266, which took effect in 2017, brought Louisiana in line with a growing number of states that require testing and licensing.
The seminar will also cover claim settlement laws and regulations; insurance contracts; types of insurance perils and losses; workers' comp benefits, disability, occupational disease and illness, and claims reporting procedures; and the adjustment process, including investigation of claims and finalization of claims.
The seminar is $100 for LASIE members and $125 for others.
A registration form is available here. It can be mailed with payment to LASIE, P.O. Box 4151, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70821.
