The filing fee for a requested hearing, settlement or motion will jump, from $25 to $50, starting Aug. 1, the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission announced this week.
The extra funds from the increase will go toward modernizing computer infrastructure and upgrading the commission's 29-year-old claims management system, Executive Director Gary Cannon said in the statement.
"Benefits to the stakeholders include improved security of data, ability to provide financial transactions of fees and fines electronically, and creating an avenue for filing pleadings electronically and document accessibility by parties to claims," Cannon said.
The higher fees were approved by the South Carolina legislature this spring.
