An East St. Louis truck driver has filed a lawsuit, charging that he was fired after he was injured on the job and filed a workers' compensation claim.
Roderick Jones, who worked for Zade Trucking Co., said in the complaint in St. Clair County Circuit Court that he was injured in 2018. The nature of the injury was not explained, but Jones said he was fired exactly six months after the injury, according to a news report.
Before he was fired, Jones said he was considered a reliable employee who received high marks from the company.
The lawsuit seeks more than $100,000 in wages, benefits and punitive damages. Retaliation is prohibited by Illinois' workers' compensation law.
