You're missing the point. Police and Firefighters file these claims because they can, are encouraged to do so by their Union, their co-workers, and a system that provides them with so many ridiculous presumptions that many believe they would be fools to not file. It is a well known fact that they typically file their claims before retirement in order to also support their service related disability claim, which also costs the public entities millions of dollars. If the claims were legitimate, fine. But do you really think police are more susceptible to skin cancer than, say, farm laborers? Traffic officers? Lifeguards? Door to door magazine salesmen? If police officers are so "obviously" more susceptible to these types of claims, THEN THEY DON'T NEED THE PRESUMPTION!! Low back claims due to wearing a weapon belt? PULEEZ!! I've done alot of things far, far more strenuous myself, lifting files on a daily basis. Presumption? No. Again, farm laborers should certainly be more susceptible to back claims due to the nature of their stoop labor. Presumption? No. Why is all of this the case? Because our politicians cannot wait to bend over for the CCPOA whenever they propose more benefits for police officers. Same for the firefighters Union. Way too much money, which is like heroin to an addict for politicians. Plus, ignore their request and the money goes to your opponent in the next election and ensures you are out of office. Whenever you see that a politician is "supported" by the police or firefighters, this should raise a red flag that the politician isn't doing what is in the best interest of the general public, but is doing what is in the interest of the politician getting re-elected at the expense of what is best for the general public. This will only change when the voting public stops this ridiculous cycle, which has already been a significant part of the bankruptcy of Orange County, Detroit, San Bernardino, Stockton, etc. etc. etc.
