The New Jersey Compensation and Inspection Bureau has appointed Paul G. Witko as executive director, effective May 1.
Witko, an attorney licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York since 1989, replaces Frederick A. Huber, who is retiring after 38 years at the bureau.
Witko has served as legal counsel to the bureau for six years while working for the state Department of Banking and Insurance. He worked in private practice as an insurance defense litigator for eight years before joining the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office as a deputy attorney general in 1998, focusing on insurance regulatory work.
Witko joined the bureau staff in 2009 as a special assistant to Huber. He became a director of the bureau in 2010, was appointed as associate executive director in 2011 and added the title general counsel in 2012.
“Mr. Witko worked closely with me during my time as executive director, and has demonstrated a thorough knowledge of bureau operations and an outstanding ability in the performance of his responsibilities,’’ Huber said in a circular letter.
