Authorities are investigating the death of a worker at a Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, in what Disney officials are calling an "industrial accident," according to news reports.
The worker, Alberto Ojeda, 33, was described as a cast member at Disney's Pop Century resort. A local fire department and sheriff's officers responded to a call Monday morning, and Ojeda was pronounced dead at the scene.
“All of us at Walt Disney World Resort are deeply saddened today by the loss of one of our cast members,” Walt Disney World Resort president George A. Kalogridis said in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel. “Our thoughts and concerns are with his family, friends, and fellow co-workers.”
Details about the accident were not released, but the resort area is in the midst of considerable construction, including a project to build a stop for a gondola that will connect some resorts with Epcot and Hollywood Studios. No opening date has been announced for the gondolas, the newspaper reported.
