I AM A WCJ IN SAN DIEGO, THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH COURT CALL ONLY AND IS NOT TO BE IMPUTED TO ANY OTHER JUDGE OR THE DIR. IN MY EXPERIENCE, COURT CALL ALWAYS GIVES ME A LIST OF COURT CALL CASES WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE HEARING, COURT CALL ACTUALLY HAS AN OPERATOR THAT IS ON THE CALL, GETS THE PARTIES ON LINE WHEN THE JUDGE IS ABLE TO HANDLE THE CALL AND HELPS WITH "CONFERENCING" THE PARTIES. I HAVE FAXED DOCUMENTS BACK AND FORTH. I FEEL THAT COURT CALL IS EFFICIENT AND SHOULD BE USED IN CASES WHERE THE PARTIES ANTICIPATE A CONTINUANCE OR OTOC REQUEST, WHERE THE REQUESTS ARE JOINT, AT AOE/COE PRIORITY CONFERENCES WHERE DISCOVERY IS REQUIRED. AS ALWAYS, PARTIES THAT ARE PREPARED BEFORE THE HEARINGS DO BETTER THAN THE DISORGANIZED, LETS FIND OUT AT THE LAST MINUTE AND OH!!! OOPS!!!. I THINK THAT IT WILL TAKE TIME TO BUILD UP TRUST AND EXPERIENCE, BUT USED APPROPRIATELY RESULTS IN EXPEDITIOUS AND INEXPENSIVE PROCEEDINGS.

I agree, I've used court call in the past with civil cases and it works perfectly. Court Call is efficient and should be used in cases where it is not essential for a personal appearance such as joint requests, discovery appearances, continuances, or off calendar requests. This is a good step towards technological advancement at the Worker's Compensation Appeals Board and should save all parties a great deal of time in court and on the road.
