Contractor Indicted on Suspicion of Underreporting Payroll

A Massachusetts grand jury indicted a Boston-area contractor for allegedly underreporting his payroll in order to shave thousands off his workers' compensation premiums.

Anner Valentin Amaya, 45, of Revere, was indicted on suspicion of workers' compensation fraud, failure to provide coverage, and larceny, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy announced Wednesday.

Amaya provided false information on the number of employees he had when his business was audited by his workers' compensation carrier, allowing him to reduce premiums by more than $73,000, Healy said.

Amaya faces an April 17 arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court.

The case was referred to Healy's office by the state's Insurance Fraud Bureau.
