International insurance law firm Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer is presenting a free webinar May 11 covering advanced concepts of California workers’ compensation subrogation.
While the basic parameter of workers’ compensation claims from state to state remains somewhat constant, the laws regarding subrogation vary greatly, the firm said. California is one of the most complicated states when it comes to workers’ compensation subrogation.
The webinar will explore issues including employer negligence and how it impacts a subrogation lien; allocation of third-party recovery; allocation of attorneys’ fees and costs; what happens when the lien exceeds the third-party recovery; how future credit works; third-party compromise and release; waivers of subrogation; borrowed servant doctrine; and jurisdiction of the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.
The program will be beneficial to all claims professionals in all levels of experience who have workers’ compensation subrogation responsibilities in California.
Senior associate attorney Katherine A. Sandoval from the firm’s California office will lead the presentation, which runs from 9-10 a.m.
