The West Virginia Insurance Commissioner has filed suit against a pet store owner for failure to maintain workers' compensation for her employees.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction to require Pups and Purrs of Clarksburg to obtain the necessary coverage or close its doors, according to the West Virginia Record legal newsletter. Jennifer Moses is the owner of the business.
While many states prosecute companies that avoid workers' compensation responsibilities, West Virginia seeks a civil injunction. Most businesses comply and obtain coverage after the court rules against them, said David Ansell, attorney for the Insurance Commission.
