Robert Marra, of Crawford, falsely reported the extent of a work injury to doctors and independent medical evaluators, authorities said. He was deemed fully disabled and collected $33,700 in workers' compensation benefits, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

However, investigators allegedly found that Marra, 56, ran the endurance races. He also allegedly took part in an ibex hunt in Spain, which required good physical conditioning, authorities said.

Marra’s charges follow an investigation by sheriff’s investigators, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Department of Financial Services.

Marra was charged April 30. He was arraigned and released without bail, pending a future court date.
