Robert Rassp has practiced workers’ compensation and Social Security disability law since 1981 and is the principal of his own law firm since 1983. He is a certified specialist in workers’ compensation law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization since 1994. On April 16, 2018, Judge Rassp was appointed as a Workers' Compensation Administrative Law Judge and is assigned to the Los Angeles WCAB District Office. On January 2, 2020, Judge Rassp was appointed as the Presiding Judge at the WCAB Los Angeles District Office.
Robert Rassp was appointed as a member of the State Bar Workers’ Compensation Law Section Executive Committee in April 1998 and became its Chair in 2000-2001. He was reappointed as a member of the Workers’ Compensation Law Section Executive Committee in May 2003 and is currently an advisor to the Committee, now re-named as the California Lawyer's Association.
Judge Rassp has conducted workers’ compensation statewide judge’s training at the request of the State of California Division of Workers’ Compensation. Since the enactment of SB 899 in April 2004, Robert has conducted over 1000 seminars for the workers’ compensation community, including the DWC, CAAA, CWCDAA, WCCA and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. In 2005, Judge Rassp co-authored Chapters 29 (Social Security and Medicare) and 32 (Permanent Disability Rating Schedules) in the HANNA treatise and Chapter 7 (PDRS) in the HERLICK treatise.
Robert Rassp is also a member of the LexisNexis Calif. Workers’ Compensation Editorial Board and is a member of the subcommittee of Editorial Board members for Noteworthy WCAB Panel Decisions. He is the author of “Lawyer’s Guide to the AMA Guides and California Workers’ Compensation,” 2005-2018 and continuing editions. He is also the Editor-In-Chief of the two volume, Seventh Edition of "California Workers' Compensation Law" also known as "Rassp & Herlick."
In addition to his judicial role, Judge Rassp is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Friends Research Institute (www.friendsresearch.org) which is an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit medical research institute headquartered in Baltimore Md. Judge Rassp has extensive experience in medical research and has been involved in the medical research community for over 30 years. In his spare time, Judge Rassp is the keyboardist for the rock band "CC&R"
