A federal grand jury has indicted a Pennsylvania woman on charges that she sent herself payments while managing a workers' compensation claim for a carrier, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Thursday.
Brenda Hilton, 59, of Windsor, faces three counts of wire fraud and three counts of mail fraud.
According to the indictment, Hilton worked in the Maryland office of a Swiss property and casualty insurer. She is accused of submitting fraudulent payment authorizations for about $27,000 in services related to a client's workers' compensation claim.
"The fraudulent claim submissions directed that all payments be sent to the residential address of Brenda Lee Hilton located in Windsor, Pennsylvania," the indictment reads.
The fraudulent payments were for "reimbursements for home modifications per WCC order," "mileage and transportation reimbursement," and "reimbursement for vehicle modification per award," according to the indictment.
The indictment does not name Hilton's employer.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated the case, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. If Hilton is convicted, she would be ordered to forfeit $20,000 and any property purchased with money from the alleged fraud. She could also face prison time.
