Construction is expected to start next year on Applied Underwriters’ new 55-acre office campus in Omaha, Nebraska, which will house the workers’ comp insurer’s national operations center.
The 450,000-square-foot campus will accommodate up to 2,000 workers. An Applied Underwriters spokesman told the Omaha World-Herald that moving company headquarters there is also a possibility. Applied Underwriters is now based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Applied Underwriters currently has about 800 workers in Omaha who are spread out in different locations. They would be brought together at the new campus.
Applied Underwriters, a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate, owns the 500-acre site in west Omaha where the new campus will be located. Development of the site is expected to also include a 6,500-seat amphitheater; a 300-room hotel; 500,000 square feet of retail space; 1.65 million square feet of office space; and about 2,000 housing units. An $84 million senior living project is underway.
The site, southwest of 144th Street and West Dodge Road, was previously known as West Farm but has been renamed Heartwood Preserve.
