Pretty much all compounding is a scam. That's why they have factoring companies to buy the accounts receivables. That's how they hide the kick back money that the Drs receive. I can't believe that the DIR or other state authorities can't figure this out. Fish is a crook and so are most if not all compounding companies that operate in the comp space.

Accusations of pharmacy script Kickbacks All Speculation. Comp is riddled with problems in all areas. Go lobby the state if you have issues. Nothing eliminates problems faster than a change in fee schedules.
David Stein Nov 3, 2016 a 2:58 pm PDT
The Truth didn't bother to read the truth. Kickbacks are not speculation. They are known and identified from pharmacies, drs, attys, carriers and the state. Lobby the state with what, more kickbacks?

"The Truth" aka Curtis Hague from Curt's Compounding Pharmacy. LOL.
Charles Cleveland Nov 3, 2016 a 2:58 pm PDT
Unbelievable. If those guys are involved in pharmacies they are probably involved in clinics, DME, and everything else too.
David Stein Nov 3, 2016 a 2:58 pm PDT
The DIR does know. So do the DOI and the carriers. They are all getting kickbacks though. That's why you see Zenith hiring judges and policymakers. Zenith, SCIF and others control DOI investigations through the Fraud Assessment fund. Carrier execs take in kickbacks through their own medical device leasing companies, imposter drugs like Proteolin, and even just cash in envelopes. Its so entrenched that the system would need to be dismantled for it to be eradicated. Premiums would probably be half of what they are now though. So Fish is still around because he is "one of us".

The carriers get kickbacks backs from compounding pharmacies? Did you get your econ degree at Kramer's School of Economics? As in: "It's a write-off for them." "How is it a write-off?" "They just write it off." "Write it off what?" "Jerry, all these big companies, they write off everything." "You don't even know what a write-off is." "Do you?" "No, I don't." "But they do. And they're the ones writing it off." "I wish I had the last twenty seconds of my life back."

In all fairness he did not say they get kick backs from the compounding pharmacies, although it could be possible they get rebates at the end of the year depending on volume. What he did say is that the carriers take Kick backs from their own medical device leasing companies...Ie; Direct DME who is owned by AIG and there are many more examples. I know that our services are sold to companies like one-call, cypress care etc... at a great discount, and then those companies who are the preferred provider, mark up the cost of the service above what I would charge, and the payers pay it. I would assume there is some type of rebate system in place as I couldn't see why a carrier would want to pay 20 to 40 percent more than they could get the same service directly from the person providing it for... its all pretty shady and the worker suffers because they know nothing of this.

If it is as you both say then the harm being done is not to the injured worker but to the employer who is paying premiums based on claim costs that should be lower then what the carriers are paying.
David Stein Nov 3, 2016 a 2:58 pm PDT
The harm is being done to employers but also IW's because the focus of much of their treatment is profit rather than recovery. For example, the injured woman that lost her child because of the pain cream from Ahmed was harmed. When we talk about fraud being perpetrated by "Carriers" we can mean all of the companies providing WC insurance, specific companies, and specific people at those companies. I am sure that there are issues at the top level but also at the specific people level. Steiner at SCIF has been discussed. Kravets, Marshall, Pattis at Zenith through OptiMed Rx and Nickells Pharma is another example.
Jim McMorrow Nov 3, 2016 a 2:58 pm PDT
But profits have always been the primary goal of many of the players in WC. The goal after an injury is to NOT heal but to have residual disability and an ongoing need for medical treatment. Attys should be paid for providing advice and guidance not for securing higher levels of disability just as doctors shouldn't be rewarded for the amount of treatment they provide but rather the outcomes their patients experience. It is a hard nut to crack to make it fair for everyone. This is why so many leave the industry. Until we devised a method to divorce payment of attorney fees from the level of disability the system will continue to spawn bad behavior in the few to the detriment of the many.
David Stein Nov 3, 2016 a 2:58 pm PDT
We are all aware that many players in WC are in it for profit. The problem is that when WC is portrayed as good vs. bad or right vs. wrong that is not true. It is not Carriers vs providers, applicants vs. defense, IW against the system. There is no check and balance. When the carriers (or players within that wield a lot of power) are first in line to siphon cash from the coffers and have everybody else in their pockets there is no good guy. The head of the Fraud Commission at he DOI is also a kingpin in the pain cream and DME scams. We aren't even to the point where we can "devise methods". But it is time for the industry to look for the "good guys" and make sure they are good. They are there (Dr Peplowski is one that comes to mind) but while Zenith hires judges and legislatures I return for their "service" and the likes of Marshall and Steiner hand out cash and direct fraud efforts, every Californian will continue to pay the price.

Don't forget to check out the medical management companies and medical billing companies... They work off a percentage....convenient way to hide a partnership.
