A woman has sued Family Dollar Stores of West Virginia Inc., accusing the national retailer of retaliating against her for filing a workers’ compensation claim last year, according to the West Virginia Record newspaper.

Rachel Tolliver filed suit in Wyoming Circuit Court, alleging that she was fired two months after she was injured during the robbery of a Family Dollar store in Oceana, Wyoming.

Tolliver was hurt when a robber attacked her and locked her in a utility closet in the store on Jan. 25, 2015, according to her lawsuit. She filed a workers’ compensation claim for physical and mental injuries that she suffered during the robbery.

She started receiving short-term disability benefits because she was unable to work after the incident, according to the report. On March 22, 2015, she received a call from the company informing her she was being let go for “personal reasons.”

Tolliver is seeking $250,000 in compensation for emotional distress, $500,000 in punitive damages and compensation for lost earnings of $820 a week.
