Colorado lawmakers are considering a bill that would make a number of changes to workers’ compensation law, including increasing funeral benefits for those killed on the job.

HB 1347, introduced Monday, would raise funeral benefits to $12,500 from $7,000.

The bill would also allow comp claimants to receive advance payment for mileage reimbursements for medical treatment that takes place more than 100 miles from home.

The bill also includes guidelines on how an employer or an employer’s insurer determines the benefit amount for medical impairment and would require reporting of active medical treatments necessary to cure and relieve an injury lasting more than 180 calendar days after the date of the injury.

The bill was referred to the Business Affairs & Labor Committee in the state House of Representatives. It has not been scheduled for a hearing.

The Colorado General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn May 11.
