The insurance industry is behind the QME letter template. They do not want to pay their attorneys to draft advocacy letters and they most certainly do not want provision of any honest information from the injured worker advocates sent to the doctors. Do they not know that such will only increase the number of doctor depositions? Why do they not create a template for the QMEs to use so they are forced to actually address all issues presented in our letters? Rhetorical questions. They do not want truth or even efficiency. They want to save money. They do not care who suffers if they can increase their profits. It is clear who the powers that be work for in this system. We on both sides of the bar are so tired of being forced to depose incompetent QMEs. It's not as bad for defense attorneys. At least they can try to bill their clients for preparing for and appearing at the doctors' depositions. Injured worker advocates are the only people who are not paid to prepare for and attend the QME deposition. If carriers had to pay us, maybe they would really try to fix the broken QME system. Better yet, maybe they would try to change the laws to go back to the old system where we get our own evidence. Then only doctors who can actually write substantial evidence reports would be hired. As it is now, incompetent QMEs are allowed to destroy lives and waste money. And do not even get me started in the billing "tactics" ( read that as fraud) perpetrated by some of the QME scheduling services.
All food for thought.
