The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is seeking to collect a $9,300 judgment against a militia group that failed to carry workers’ compensation coverage for a worker in the state, according to a report by the Lincoln Journal Star.
Assistant Attorney General Brenda Spilker on Tuesday registered with a district court an earlier judgement from the state Workers’ Compensation Commission finding the Oath Keepers willfully failed to secure workers’ compensation insurance for its long worker in Nebraska.
The commission’s order said Oath Keepers and its president, E. Stewart Rhodes, failed to appear at a hearing to provide proof that it obtained coverage after a previous policy was canceled in July 2019.
The Workers’ Compensation Commission assessed a penalty $15 for each day the militia operated without coverage, totaling $9,330.
