The New York Daily News reports a construction worker in the Bronx who was carrying $100,000 in cash from a work comp settlement was mugged.
The worker apparently revealed the backpack was full of money when he stopped to buy something at a corner store. The New York Police Department said a customer in the store at the time stated, “Wow, that’s a lot of money.”
After leaving the store, the man was sitting on a bench waiting for a friend when three people approached and punched, kicked and beat him with a stick before stealing the backpack, according to the Daily News.
The paper reports the victim, who was not identified by name, was carrying settlement proceeds for a 2020 workplace injury.
