A telecom worker who failed to report outside employment after saying a slip-and-fall injury prevented him from working was ordered to pay $14,000 in restitution, the California Department of Insurance announced.
Douglas Satre, 38, was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, one year of probation, 40 hours of community service and completion of a theft awareness class.
Satre said he slipped and fell in a bathroom while working for a telecom company in San Rafael that’s not named in the department’s statement. He filed a comp claim and received temporary disability benefits and medical care.
The Insurance Department said Satre was criminally charged after an investigation revealed he was working for a new company while telling doctors he was unable to work because of the severity of his injuries.
