This tells me that Brown does not take the WCAB seriously. He let it hover at five commissioners for years and then hires his high school buddy? (whose career was almost exclusively in music). It took me five years to learn the basics of workers' compensation. I don't believe "learning on the job" is what we need for the short-staffed WCAB. All of these "give him a chance" comments are disappointing. Would you want his first decision to come on one of your big cases?

Apparently he was an associate professor of philosophy for 24 years and got his Masters from Stanford. Article probably should have mentioned that. I tend to think some experience in law or work comp would be important for a position like this but the appointment is already made. Seems like a smart guy at least and if he brings some passion and impartiality to the job it could work out. Fingers crossed guys.

Let the man worry about doing his job. Who knows, hopefully he does bring on a new prespective, a fresh one, that will undo the unjust. This system has been going in the wrong direction lately, and this move will hopefully help. I know the inusrance companies are shaking now. You see, it all comes down to who you know, first, then what you know, second.

Par for the California course. Help your buddies and cronies and treat the rest like garbage, so many truly qualified folks are just passed on by. Another great example of pure inefficiency and ignorance at work. And I use Ignorance very loosely.

I want a Commissioner who knows workers' compensation law, which he clearly does not. He likely does not even know the rules of contract and statutory construction. The man may be very smart and a wonderful person. My point is, I can think of at least 10 judges at the SFO and OAK boards who would make great Commissioners, and another 50 practitioners who would likely be great choices. This man clearly is not the most qualified person and that is not fair to our community.
