The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed penalties of $92,820 after inspectors reportedly found an armor plate fabrication company in Florida exposed workers to amputation and other risks.

Point Blank Enterprises Inc., which operates as the Protective Group in Miami Lakes, allegedly allowed workers to operate a band saw that wasn’t properly guarded.

The company also allegedly failed to develop or implement a lockout/tagout program to prevent machines from unexpectedly starting during servicing or maintenance.

OSHA said it conducted the inspection as part of a national program to reduce workplace amputations.

But the agency also cited Point Blank Enterprises for exposing employees to silica levels over the permissible limit and failing to conduct monitoring to determine employees’ exposure to silica.

The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
