For those of you who follow national trends and hot issues regarding workers’ compensation, I highly recommend the 2021 LexisNexis book, “Workers' Compensation Emerging Issues Analysis.”

Mike Fish

The book contains a collection of articles written by leading experts in the field of workers’ compensation. The lion’s share of the book is dedicated to issues related to the pandemic. One such article, authored by Michael C. Duff, professor of law at the University of Wyoming and a WorkCompCentral.com contributor, addresses presumptions and how they work in various states.

Other topics include medical marijuana and opioid laws, understanding the AMA Guidelines in workers’ compensation, ridesharing and the independent contractor defense.

The book also contains a state-by-state legislative and case law analysis, a “trends analysis” and a section that reviews cases of particular interest to practitioners and employers.

“Workers’ Compensation Emerging Issues Analysis” was co-edited by attorney Thomas Robinson and the National Workers’ Compensation Defense Network (NWCDN). Robinson is the co-author of "Larson’s Workers’ Compensation Law" and "Larson’s Workers’ Compensation, Desk Edition."

The NWCDN is a nationwide network of independent law firms dedicated to promoting excellence in the practice of workers’ compensation law.

Mike Fish is an attorney with Fish Nelson & Holden LLC, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. This entry is republished, with permission, from the firm's Alabama Workers' Comp Blawg.
